Find and black out private details in a PDF
Type the names or numbers to remove, or choose emails, phone numbers, card numbers, bank account numbers (IBAN) or US social security numbers. Every match is listed, in form fields and comments too, so you check it first, then black them all out in one go. The rest of each redacted page can stay searchable.

How to do it
- Open your PDF, open Tools and choose Find and black out…
- Type what to find, or choose a kind of detail, and press Find.
- Check the matches, press Black out chosen, then Download.

Watch the network
The "Nothing is uploaded" button in the app opens a list of every other site the page has contacted since you opened it, and how often, taken from the browser's own record. Your browser's developer tools show every request, this site's own included.

Pull the plug
Once the app has loaded, turn off your network and keep working. Text recognition, the document converter and the handwriting fonts work offline too after their first use.

Redaction that removes
A page with something blacked out is saved as a picture of itself, so the text under the box is gone, and every redacted page is checked before the file is saved.
Questions
- Can the rest of a redacted page still be searched?
- Yes. The page's other text is laid back over its picture, invisibly, so it can be searched and copied, all but what was under the boxes.
- What if a page has no text to search?
- It is named in the list, never counted as clean. A scan has no text until it is recognised, so recognise its text first.
- Can hidden information go too?
- Yes: turn on leaving out hidden information in the same window, and attachments, scripts and metadata are left out of the download.
