Change the text in a PDF
Click a line of text to retype it. The old line is covered with a patch in the colour of the paper and the new words are written over it, in the same size and ink and a matching kind of letter. The old words stay in the file under the patch, so use Redact to remove words for good.

How to do it
- Open your PDF and double-click the page to open it large.
- Choose the Edit text tool (M) and click the line to change.
- Type the new words, press Enter, then Download.
You do not have to take our word for it
-
Watch the network
The "Nothing is uploaded" button in the app opens a list of every other site the page has contacted since you opened it, and how often, taken from the browser's own record. Your browser's developer tools show every request, this site's own included.
-
Pull the plug
Once the app has loaded, turn off your network and keep working. Text recognition, the document converter and the handwriting fonts work offline too after their first use.
-
Redaction that removes
A page with something blacked out is saved as a picture of itself, so the text under the box is gone, and every redacted page is checked before the file is saved.
Questions
- Are the old words removed?
- No. They are covered and stay in the file underneath. To remove words for good, black them out with Redact.
- Will it use the same font?
- It matches the size and the ink colour, and the kind of letter (plain, serif or typewriter, bold or italic), but not the exact font.
- Can I edit a scanned page?
- Not until its text has been recognised with Recognise text.
- Is it free?
