Draw on, highlight and comment on a PDF
Mark up pages with a pen, highlighter, rectangles, ellipses, arrows, lines and text in any script, highlight or strike out selected text, and pin notes. They are saved as comments other PDF apps can change, or made part of the page if you prefer.

How to do it
- Open your PDF and double-click a page to open it large.
- Pick a tool from the drawing bar and draw. Everything can be selected, moved, resized and undone, also with the keyboard.
- Press Download.
You do not have to take our word for it
-
Watch the network
The "Nothing is uploaded" button in the app opens a list of every other site the page has contacted since you opened it, and how often, taken from the browser's own record. Your browser's developer tools show every request, this site's own included.
-
Pull the plug
Once the app has loaded, turn off your network and keep working. Text recognition, the document converter and the handwriting fonts work offline too after their first use.
-
Redaction that removes
A page with something blacked out is saved as a picture of itself, so the text under the box is gone, and every redacted page is checked before the file is saved.
Questions
- Can other programs change my comments?
- Yes. Drawings, shapes, text boxes, highlights and notes are saved as real PDF comments. To fix them into the page instead, turn on Make drawings part of the page; notes always stay comments.
- Can I mark up text?
- Yes. Select text on a page to highlight it, underline it or strike it out.
- Can I do it all from the keyboard?
- Almost all of it. Every tool has a single-letter shortcut, Tab steps through the drawings, and the arrow keys move and resize them. Only drawing freehand with the pen needs a pointer.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Annotate PDF is one of the everyday tools, free forever, with no account and no watermark.
