Remove the password from a PDF
Add a password-protected PDF and type its password once. It is stored without the password, so what you download opens freely.
Yes. Unlock PDF is one of the everyday tools, free forever, with no account and no watermark. Pricing
How to do it
- Choose files and pick the protected PDF.
- Type its password when asked.
- Press Download.
You do not have to take our word for it
-
Watch the network
The "Nothing is uploaded" button in the app opens a list of every other site the page has contacted since you opened it, and how often, taken from the browser's own record. Your browser's developer tools show every request, this site's own included.
-
Pull the plug
Once the app has loaded, turn off your network and keep working. Text recognition, the document converter and the handwriting fonts work offline too after their first use.
-
Redaction that removes
A page with something blacked out is saved as a picture of itself, so the text under the box is gone, and every redacted page is checked before the file is saved.
Questions
- Can it open a PDF without the password?
- No. You need the password to open it; after five wrong tries the file is skipped.
- Is anything lost?
- Normally nothing: text, bookmarks, links and forms come through. In the rare case the protection cannot be removed that way, the pages are saved as pictures and you are told so.
- What about a PDF that limits printing or copying?
- Some PDFs limit printing, copying or changing them, whether or not they need a password to open. Unless you opened one with its owner's password, which lifts the limits, PDF Stitch asks whether to keep those limits on what you download, and keeps them unless you say you have the right to remove them, for example because the file is your own. Kept, they are put back on every PDF made from its pages, and its pages cannot be saved as pictures or as other kinds of file if copying is not allowed.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Unlock PDF is one of the everyday tools, free forever, with no account and no watermark.
