Convert a PDF to Word and other formats

Read a PDF back as text and structure, and save it as a Word document, an Excel workbook, a PowerPoint presentation, OpenDocument text, spreadsheet or presentation, rich text, an e-book, LaTeX, CSV, Markdown, a web page or plain text. This rebuilds the document from its text; it does not copy the page's exact look.

Saving as text, Markdown or a web page is free at any length, and in every other format up to 5 pages. Longer documents in those formats are part of Pro. Pricing

How to do it

  1. Open your PDF. For a scan, run Tools, Recognise text in scans first.
  2. Open More ways to export (the arrow next to Download) and choose Convert to Word, text and more.
  3. Pick the format.

You do not have to take our word for it

Questions

Does it keep the exact layout?
No. The words carry over, and headings, lists and tables where they can be recognised, which is not always; the exact positions on the page do not.
What page size do Word files get?
The size of the PDF's first page, for the whole document: a Letter PDF gives a Letter document, a landscape one a landscape document.
What about a scanned PDF?
Its pages are pictures, so recognise their text first with Recognise text, then convert.
Is the redacted text in the result?
No. The whole document is converted as it would download, so text under redactions is gone from the result too.
Is it free?
Saving as text, Markdown or a web page is free at any length, and in every other format up to 5 pages. Longer documents in those formats are part of Pro.
