Repair a damaged PDF
Some damaged files still open in a browser but fail in programs that change them. When PDF Stitch meets one, it rebuilds it as it is added: each page becomes a picture of how it looked, with its words laid over it so they can still be searched and copied.

How to do it
- Choose files and pick the damaged PDF, or drop it on the page.
- If it can be read, it is repaired as it is added, and a notice says so.
- Press Download.
You do not have to take our word for it
-
Watch the network
The "Nothing is uploaded" button in the app opens a list of every other site the page has contacted since you opened it, and how often, taken from the browser's own record. Your browser's developer tools show every request, this site's own included.
-
Pull the plug
Once the app has loaded, turn off your network and keep working. Text recognition, the document converter and the handwriting fonts work offline too after their first use.
-
Redaction that removes
A page with something blacked out is saved as a picture of itself, so the text under the box is gone, and every redacted page is checked before the file is saved.
Questions
- What if it cannot be repaired?
- If none of it can be read, the app says so. A file that was cut short or written over may have nothing left to rebuild from.
- Is anything lost?
- Each page keeps its look and its words, but becomes a picture: links, form fields and bookmarks do not survive, and the text is no longer sharp at every zoom.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Repair PDF is one of the everyday tools, free forever, with no account and no watermark.
